Tempeh Fried Mendoan


You know with Tempeh? Tempe is a native Indonesian food made ​​from soybeans, which contain so many nutrients and proteins derived from soybeans. Now I will invite you to make one of the foods made from tempeh is called Tempe Mendoan. Tempe Mendoan is a kind of tempeh cooking that is made from thin tempeh, fried with flour so as to taste deliciously piquant. Traditionally in the Banyumas territory, tempe mendoan was made from thin, wide tempeh, one or two sheets cooked at a time. However, tempe mendoan also could be made from normal tempeh that was sliced very thin but wide.


Ingredients :

300 g tempeh, size 10×15 cm
2 pieces green onion, slice thinly
199 g rice flour
1 tbs wheat flour
125 ml water
½ ml cooking oil



For grinding :

2 cloves of garlic
1 piece shallot
1 tsp. coriander
¼ tsp. white pepper
2 tsp. salt

How to make :
  1. Mix well: the two kinds of flour, all ground ingredients, water, and green onion, mix well into a liquid dough.
  2. Dip each piece of tempeh into the liquid dough until all surfaces are covered
  3. Warm the oil in a frying pan, and put it on the stove until hot. 
  4. Put each piece of coated tempeh into hot oil.
  5. Fry the tempehs, and wait until it becomes hardened and well done. 
  6. Please don't wait until it becomes yellow and crispy.
  7.  Take out the tempeh from the warm oil. 
  8. Let the oil drip from the tempeh so that there is not much oil on it.
  9. Served tempeh with soy bean sauce and sliced small chilies.
